APFA in Stony Plain put on a petting zoo. They had ride on John Deere tractors that the kids rode down a little hill. Pushing it back up to the top was great for gross motor skills.
Great activity for fine motor skills and eye hand coordination. I took an old protein container and peeled the stickers off. Then I drilled holes all over and threaded lots of different ribbon through it.
I have brought the kids out to Happy Acres U pick farm a couple times this year. The love all the different animals and the little playground.
We did a unit on apples and make applesauce. Kids liked turning the handle to peel and cut the apples.
In the summer we drive to different playgrounds to make things a bit more exciting. We were at the Transalta Tri leisure outdoor park. I dont have many pictures of the different places because they are always of the kids. I dont like posting pictures of their faces on the Internet. This one turned out safe with no one looking at the camera.
After years of forgetting I finally made matching shirts for all the kids. the front says my dayhome name and phone number as well. It is so much easier to find all 6 of my kids in the sea of little people at any activity. The tye dye ending up costing a pretty penny but no one has shirts like these which makes it easier to locate kids I had a train table that was homemade. Because space is always an issue I had an idea to incorporate the light table into the train table and only have 1 piece.
I built an insert into the inside of the table. Then I had come across used pieces of plexiglass for only $2 each. I spent a fair amount on spray frost to frost the plexiglass. I also had a bunch of Christmas lights that were given to me. I lined the base and side of the table with tinfoil and foil tape for duct work. Put the lights in and set the plexiglass on top. I love the size, plenty big enough for all 6 kids. Now I just have to install curtains to darken this very bright second story bonus room. I had bought some wooden pegs from a garage sale, hoping that I could figure out a use for them. this is what I came up with. I painted them and then took another board and drilled holes into it. then we made a bunch of different patterns and took pictures of each one. So the kids can either do their own creations or copy one in the book.
We went on a nature walk and collected some different items. Then we drove out to a farm that has lots of cool different animals and collected different feathers.
I layered each item in between mac tac plastic. Then sealed them shut with duck tape. |
